In google webmasters tools you can set crawl rate. But most time you see google do not allow you to set the crawl rate to faster. As we know if googlebot collects more faster, our websites would be able get more results in google faster too. So what are the conditions google will detecte the faster speed is the fact affects googlebot collection?
After I checked some sites.I find there are three most important fact.
1. website must be hosted on a strong server and googlebot can collect fast.
2. website have a large quantity of contents. And the contents should be valuable detected by google. This is very important. It would affect google results amount.
3. You should submit clear sitemaps to google webmasters. Then google will index the sitemaps first. If the total amount is very large, and match the two facts above, then you can set crawl rate to faster.
By the way, to set crawl rate faster, the googlebot would use too much of server's resources. One of my new website is downloaded by over 70, 000 pages one day......

http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=48618&hl=en

The crawl rate tool provides information about how much bandwidth Googlebot has used on your server over the last 90 days. It also enables you to request a change in how much we crawl your site. You can change the crawl rate for sites that are at the root level - for example,
www.example.com and
http://subdomain.example.com. You can't change the crawl rate for sites that are not at the root level - for example,
www.example.com/folder.
